I was invited to an exclusive cocktail event sponsored by Grey Goose and Angel’s Envy at the historic Hotel Galvez in Galveston. The location was stunning, and honestly, it wasn’t the event that stressed me out, it was coordinating an outfit that was on theme. I’d chosen an outfit prior to my weekend camping trip, trying to think ahead and plan accordingly. But once I got back, fully refreshed from the weekend away from the city, I was no longer confident in my choice. Thankfully I was able to put together something that felt on-theme, and my choice was solidified when I got several compliments.
Being back from a weekend in the woods, I felt grounded and energized. Even though I figured I’d only know one person there, the sponsor, I was excited to experience the hotel, and the vibe the host created. It wasn’t lost on me the event was held in June, in Galveston, TX. The same place where enslaved people in the south were finally informed of their freedom in 1865. There is something ancestrally sacred in that.
The event itself was beautifully done, and a reflection of the host. From the location, to the specialty cocktails, to the guests and their themed outfits *chef’s kiss I eased into the event with a couple of the curated cocktails, then tapped into my introverted-networking skills. The conversations were rich, the depth of the stories shared and the genuine vibe was top tier. This is how I prefer to connect with people. Not shoving business cards in each other’s faces.
One of the curated cocktails, a Salzarac, I’d never heard of but apparently is a popular cocktail, was pretty good. Boozy, but I’d totally have it again. I ended my drinking journey with my go-to Bourbon & Bubbles. The bartender hadn’t heard of it before, but she made it beautifully. So I had a couple of those, introduced my new event friends to the cocktail, with favorable feedback. As always, the after-party is where the real magic happens. That’s one thing about well-done gatherings, the official event is just the spark. The real connections catch fire after.
