Starting Before You're Ready

I am preparing to start a personal podcast. Something to accompany the blog, and something you can take with you on the go when you’re not sitting and reading. Because let’s be honest, audiobooks and podcasts exist because some of us are too busy to sit and read. Let me rephrase that, some of us have not carved out the time to sit still and read. And when we do sit still, we’re most likely doom-scrolling.
As a planner, I have planned and planned. But what I am working on this season is execution.
Which is hilarious, considering the required reading in my mentor group is Finish: Give Yourself the Gift of Done. Since I’ve joined, this mentor group has been perfectly aligned with the seasons of my life. Every series my mentor creates is the exact lessons I need for that point in my life.
Now it’s time to stop just planning and start executing the plan. Like Neo Davis said at InvestFest last year, “don’t be so addicted to learning that you become allergic to execution.”
And he’s right. I have at least 8 podcast scripts ready to go, but still, I haven’t recorded a single episode. Because, of course, I tell myself, “I don’t have everything I need yet.” Sound familiar?
Then I catch myself and remember:
You literally have everything you need to START. Yes, you have a vision of what you’d like it to become, but you have enough to start right now. These moments have me asking myself, “what’s stopping me? What’s really holding me back?” And meanwhile, days, weeks and months pass. And here we are, two months later and I still haven’t recorded a single thing.
BUT I still want to do this, because it feels like the natural next step from the blog. Unlike the Cocktail/Mocktail Hour podcast, this one is more personal. A glimpse into the life of this introvert.
Maybe this podcast will help me find my community; the people who want to live a full life, or who already are. The ones pouring into themselves, who are whole and fulfilled. Perhaps this is my journey to find them. I believe I will. Because that’s the beauty of the technology we have today, it makes the world smaller and brings us closer to people we might never otherwise cross paths with.
So, here’s to starting. Even when it’s messy.
