So, I finally had a free Saturday, and what did I do? Instead of staying cozy in my bed, I filled the day with things to do. Previously, I would have lounged in bed all day, but on this day I actually made a plan to leave the house. My Saturday was going to be filled with things that made me happy.
[random thought] Now that I think about it, I should have taken the extra step to do a rideshare so I didn't have to drive. That would have been the ultimate way to get to each appointment. I'll remember that for next time.
I started my day with meditation at the meditation studio. Here, I lay in a hammock while the guide takes us through body scans and breathwork. After practicing breathwork, they move to sound healing with crystal bowls. The premise of the order in which a session is done, is so that you can practice your breathwork on your own while hearing and feeling the sound and vibrations of the crystal bowls. After meditation, my next appointment was a massage. Its had to have been almost a year since my muscles were professionally massaged and kneaded. I will not let that much time pass again.
To complete my out-of-the-house self-care, a facial would be my last stop. This is a beauty treatment I am new to, so I am learning a lot about my skin and the various options and treatments available. I definitely spoiled myself on Saturday, and I liked having a day that was scheduled, just for me. I was initially going to end my day with work, and then lounge, hard. But my sister was in town, so we caught a show at Miller Outdoor Theatre. It was nice to spend time with her, because similar to me, when she visits her calendar is full of all the things she need to do. So it was nice to be outside with her in the fresh air and watch a show.
And thennnn, Sunday morning, my body woke me up at 730a, no alarm. One of my favorite yogis was hosting a free yoga session in the park that morning. I saw her post the day before and when I saw 9a, I was like yeahhhhh iono about that. On a Sunday?! But when I rolled over feeling completely rested that morning, I told myself, you have time to make it there. And we know the benefits you'll feel afterwards. So I got up and went, and it was glorious. The weather was perfect, I made a new friend, and it was the perfect way to end my self-care Saturday and start my Sunday.
What do you do for yourself, to fulfill your internal and external energies? When was the last time you did something just for you? Not work-related or family-related, just for you, by yourself? Take a moment, right now, and look at your calendar. When is your next "free day?" Schedule at least 5 hours on your calendar, just for you. If you can do a full day, even better. No significant other, no children, no family, no friends, just you. Do something you've been wanting to do, but keep putting off. Yoga in the park? A bike ride? A facial? Coloring in an adult coloring book? What have you been putting off? Let me know in the comments below!
