Afternooning as a Verb

Since Cocktail/Mocktail Hour is a structured space for stimulating conversations, I wanted to create something that wasn’t as structured, a space where connection could happen naturally. A space with music we (elder millennials) love, and cocktails that make your tastebuds happy. Not a late night spot, but something during the day. That is how Afternooning was born. Make it a verb!
Our inaugural season launched in 2024, and now we are nearing the end of our 2nd season. This season is different than the last, and it’s been beautiful to see it unfold. This year, we have a resident DJ, who understands exactly what we want. The music is the pulse of any event, and she’s a perfect fit. I've also added moments of interconnectivity. In May, we introduced “Find Your Match” Music Edition, a game where guests had to find the person who had the other half of their lyric. It was nostalgic and I was impressed everyone knew their songs to match the lyrics.
Last month, we hosted Bartender Roulette. Guests selected an ingredient, and our experienced bartender built a custom cocktail on the spot. Watching her confidently craft a drink from the various combinations that were thrown her way was inspiring. I would have been intimidated by the challenge. But when you’re great at what you do, is it even a challenge?? It was such a fun and interactive activity, and it was a blast getting to know people through cocktails. A crafty little ice breaker, with drink in hand. Now, what will I come up with next? Come see for yourself, we only have 2 more Afternoonings left in the season!
